The Masterson Method- Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork is a unique interactive form of Equine bodywork, where the practitioner follows the responses of the horse to their touch to find and release accumulated tension in key junctions of the horse’s body that most affect performance. These key junctions are the poll/atlas junction, the neck/shoulder/withers junction, and the hind end ( sacroiliac junction ) When we release tension in any of these key junctions, tension is released in muscles and connective tissues in the larger area of that junction and often more remote areas in the horse's body. The purpose of this method is to help the horse release accumulated stress and tension in the body that he cannot release himself.
The Masterson Method differs from traditional massage modalities in that it enables the horse to actively participate in the process of releasing tension. It’s something you do with the horse, not just to the horse. This interactive component is really what makes it stand apart.
By working with the horse’s incredible sensitivity, we can access a level of the horse’s nervous system that enables him to release tension in his muscles, connective tissue, and structure. We do this by applying different levels of touch that don’t trigger the horse’s bracing response. When we follow the horse’s signs and responses to our touch, we can help him release tension that he can not release on his own.
The Masterson Method is intended to improve performance, comfort, behavior, and well-being in the healthy horse. It is not intended as a replacement or alternative to veterinary care.
